There have been numerous attempts over the years to move the airport to a more suitable location. In 2007 permission was granted to build an airport thirty kilometres North of Durban. The airport will be called King Shaka International Airport. It is hoped that the airport will be completed in 2010 for the World Cup. Local authorities hope to attract many more international airlines to the new airport.
