We already written about car hire Johannesburg Airport and all the various ways of getting there so now we are going to look at the city of Johannesburg and all the various things to see and do there.

Getting around this city is certainly easiest done by road. Public transport could be described as unreliable at best. The majority of people who use public transport do so in order to visit the city from further afield rather than to actually use it to go from stop to stop. If you do choose a car hire Johannesburg service then be ready for some heavy traffic at peak times.

One of the first things you will notice driving around Johannesburg is the many vendors selling items at traffic lights. A huge variety of good can be bought from fruit and clothes to mobile phones. Fancy a quick haircut? Entrepreneurs with no more than a chair can be found on various side streets offering their service.

It might not be something you would expect but Johannesburg is home to around six million trees. Summer time which occurs from December to February sees regular temperatures hitting the high thirties.

The Apartheid museum in Soweto is certainly a must visit when in Johannesburg. This museum attracts huge interest year after year offering a fascinating insight into South African history. You should give yourself a good four hours or so to get through the vast amount of items on display here.

The Johannesburg Art Gallery is the biggest building of its kind in all of Africa. There are lots of examples of local and international works on show here. The Mandela Family Museum is set on the sight of his first home.

An excellent trip out of the city is the Kromdraai Gold Mine which about a forty minute drive away.  It is located in a beautiful natural area and was one of the first mines of its kind. Another eye opener is to take the township tour of Soweto.
